Grade 2
Second grade at St. Helen School strives to provide a structured, nurturing environment that allows each student to grow spiritually, academically, emotionally and physically. We strive to challenge your children to be creative thinkers, designers, and solvers of problems. In this process, students will also develop skills needed in a faith community-to be understanding, compassionate, forgiving and caring people.
Curriculum

In religion, our focus is on Reconciliation and First Communion. Many activities will be implemented in order to prepare your child for receiving these two important sacraments.

In language arts, our focus is to instill a love of reading and writing in our students by developing reading fluency of fiction and non-fiction materials, strong phonetic and comprehension skills. This teaches students what they need to know to write fluently and accurately. Students are also given an introduction to cursive writing. Social Studies and Science is integrated into the Language Arts program.

In math, students continue to build upon the skills taught in kindergarten and first grade. An emphasis is on basic facts, two-digit, three-digit, and four-digit addition and subtraction, as well as time, money, and measurement.
Our weekly curriculum is also enriched by art, computers, library, music, introduction to Spanish and physical education.
